# Alex Pritz

> Alex Pritz is a documentary director and cinematographer based in Brooklyn, New York. He directed and shot The Territory (2022), winner of a Primetime Emmy, a Peabody Award, and two Sundance Film Festival awards, and shortlisted for the Academy Award. He works as a director of photography on documentary features and limited series, and co-founded the production company Documist.

Pritz shoots vérité and observational documentary on location worldwide, including the Brazilian Amazon, the Marshall Islands, and the Canadian Arctic. Recent cinematography credits include Murder 101 (Amazon MGM, Sundance 2026) and National Geographic's Photographer. He executive produced Nuisance Bear, winner of the 2026 Sundance U.S. Documentary Grand Jury Prize.

His practice is participatory. The Territory was co-produced with the Uru-eu-wau-wau people, who operated cameras and shot footage used in the final film. At the request of the film's Indigenous subjects, it also includes candid interviews with the settlers clearing their land. Pritz has taught participatory video workshops for journalists and human rights activists internationally. He holds a B.Sc. in environmental science from McGill University.
